What’s the reason why the common approach of  Media in Europe is that of highlighting in the news only the negative events of murders, violence, family destroyed by young boys and girls, instead of good news related to actions focused to build positive and interactive future? In this interview – taken from the backstage of the activities held in Sierra Leone with the Eugad team, related to the  Documentary production in support of  MDGsFRANCESCO BRANCATELLA, national RAI television journalist and expert of reportage in Europe, Middle East and Third World, gives his own point of view on this issue. He talks about the unsaid phobias of western people, the collective unconscious repression of their fears of living, and the way how a strong identity culture, built through a true intercultural dialogue, can help overcoming those fears. He also cites the lesson we can learn by Brazil, as vivid example of multicultural cohabitation.

FIAT Mirafiori and the automotive sector: an Italian case history of misunderstanding about Development – Stefano Bartolini, Economist

ITALY – Workers at Mirafiori, the main Turin plant of Italian carmaker Fiat,  narrowly approved a tough deal on working conditions . In this interview Stefano Bartolini, Economist, makes a critic analysis of this  deal which, on his opinion , may be intended  as a good case history of “misunderstanding about development”. For Bartolini, the new Mirafiori working rules – directed to increase time work, reduce rights, strengthen workers’ stress – not only  are not likely to increase the factory productivity, but are also a risky cause for quality deterioration of Fiat products. Good practice – Food security in Sierra Leone: EFA and the Fosed project

As a good example of the way how to concretely and succesfully promote Development through a Participatory approach, the Eugad team in Sierra Leone selected the action run, in over 15 years, by EFA (Environmental Foundation for Africa), an Organization which aims to protect and restore the environment in West Africa and take advantage from the use of the local natural resources through environmental awareness raising and capacity building activities.

In February 2010 EFA started a new Cooperation partnership, named FOSED, focused on conservation agriculture and natural resource management. Its aim is to increase the agricultural productivity, develop activities in order to handle the marketing and processing of agricultural products and increase the value chain development of the agricultural products, supporting the institution building and decentralization process at district and community level as well.
