In this issue we have an interesting interview explaining why it is important for teachers to convey their global experiences though classroom teaching; and a very interesting opinion of an Indian social activist on the MDGs – why they will only be achieved on paper? The Eugad documentary team will be interviewing him in the coming month.
The Documentary team is working in full swing in India. In the last two weeks they have shot two stories: one on a hospital and the other of a rural school, both in Varanasi. They have also taken interviews to three educators, three people from the NGO sector andthe Deputy Chairman of the Indian Planning Commission, Mr. Ahluwalia, who is a very renowned economist and the economic advisor to the Indian Prime Minister. These stories and interviews are being currently edited and some of them will be online in the coming two weeks.

This issue showcases four interviews to project stakeholders. In the first, Vrinda Dar explains how each one of us has the potentiality to become a ‘world citizen’, but it is the responsibility of the more privilege ones to ‘build’ world citizens wherever we can. The other interviews include a blogger, who explains the role o social media in a democratic process; a government official, narrating his experience with what he calls as ‘meaningful witnesses’; and a social worker, describing the success she experienced using a participatory approach in projects.
Two very important methodologies which the Eugad project is adopting to make the project successful are also explained. These are communication and evaluation (in which we also explain the importance and role of communication in a project) and how we have used stakeholder interviews as resources. You can also read the UNDP report on the level of awareness among Romanian citizens on EU policies for Development.

Kaixo [user],
I’m sure you may have a vague idea of what ‘Kaixo’ may mean, but do you know what language it is? My applause if you do, pesonally I did not have the most minute clue of where it could have come from; my guess was the ancient Mayas for some strange reason. But it’s Basque.
I have always faced a major problem when writing a newsletter; “how should I greet the reader?”. Till date I’ve always started with ‘Hi’ or sometime changed it to ‘Dear’, or maybe ‘Hello’. But getting ‘geeting creative’ beyond a certain point looked like a dead end. I’ve always limited to choose between those few words! The I thought, why not change greetings each time; why not make use of the variety of languages that the world has to offer, why not be greeted differently each time a nd also get the opportunity to learn a few new words? Why not, I say! So, from this issue the Eugad newsletter will have the pleasure of greeting you in a different way each time.
This issue brings forward a very interesting article written by Wilma Massucco on whether or not Eugad project should include social media as one of its stakeholders. And if so, why? Do have a look at it and if you wish to bring forward your thoughts on this topic, please do so by leaving a comment. This issue also contain a summary of the Report sent by the European Commission on the progress of the project and two very interesting external initiatives which we believe our readers must be informed of.
In the last three weeks the Newsletter team has also worked on creating better networking among the partners though Skype conferences and to bring out more news about the Eugad ‘happenings’. The team has decided on some methodologies to put in place for better commun ication (which you can see below under ‘minutes of the meeting’) but I assume the effects of this will only be visible after this big holiday break gets over. As per now, not much has changed yet and we still lack of news, unfortunately.
On behalf of the whole Eugad Team,
Wishing you A Very Joyful New Year,
Cheers,
Fausto Aarya De Santis

Past Happenings
- (suggested) Action Progress Report (December 09) – The Eugad management prepared the latest report on the project’s progress. The initial phase of the project has been focused on creating an Eugad Network; that is, forming partnerships with persons and organizations that agree with the Eugad mission and would like to share with others a line of vision and action. This process of creating a network, included workshops, interviews, and other events.
- (suggested) “Lack of initiative from the Project Partners” – EC Monitoring Report – The EC just gave us the monitoring report and it’s not all roses. There area few positive points in it, but the most emphasized point they conveyed was that there is a “Lack of initiative from the Project Partners”
- Minutes of the Sype Conference between Eugad partners – The EC monitoring report said that there is a lack of initiative from the project partners. Why is it so? What are the solutions to this problem? The Eugad partners organized a skype conference with the aim of finding answers to these questions.
- (interesting external) What Methadologies will the EU Adopt to Promote Democracy? – The Council of the European Union agreed on 17th November to state on paper the methodologies which it wishes adapt in promoting Democracy around the word. This important development in the EU’s External Relations has sparked a great deal of interest among civil society organisations working in the field of democracy support beyond the EU’s borders, but those not directly involved in the process, like most of us, may well be asking what is the fuss all about?
What we will do next
- Stefano has started working on the Manual and script writing for the Documentaries. The wiki pages have a little bit of information on the progress of these two things but the material is not yet sufficient to post something on the web. Once we have more material you will surely be informed.
- Vrinda and Fausto will continue to update the Eugad Calander
