Eugad Manual - Section 1: Informing and Setting the Vision -

see Manuals General Index

This manual is a result of a collective effort.

It has three fundamental characteristics:

  1. it has written in order to meet the requirements of the target readers: journalists, teachers and policy makers at local level who are interested in being informed about and participating in the work in progress for achieving the MDGs and in ther activities implementing the global partnership for development;
  2. it has been written in consultation with project stakeholders;  ⇒ see consultations;
  3. it has multiple authors who are writing together, utilizing a wiki platform ⇒ see www.eugad.eu/wiki.

Before we started writing it, we have consulted with a vast sample of persons belonging to the category of readers for whom this manual was intended.  We documented the information needs and then we prepared the knowledge resources tailored to satisfy these needs. In this way, we followed the procedures that we have described in the manual  section on "Steps of Communication Management"   (Identify communication stakeholders; Analyse the communication needs of each stakeholder; Identify the information for fulfilling the information needs of each stakeholder; Identify the Method and the Effort Required; Prioritise the Communication Options.

A list of basic project issues was prepared at the beginning of the project and then expanded on the basis of the feedback; these issues have been debated extensively and the result of this dialogue has been included in the manual.

Besides the formal interviews (the main ones collected in the project web site), interaction with the stakeholders continued in specific dialogue events and through the participation tools prepared in the project web site.

Besides the wiki platform, which we considered as the "workshop" and the "library" of the manual, we opened, in the project web site, a blog section (www.eugad.eu); the blog contains news on the work in progress, debates on leading project issues and integration with the video and audio documentation that we collected while preparing the 8 documentaries

The documentaries are practical application of the ideas expressed in the manual.  A DVD version of these documentaries will be included in the final printout of the manual.

The project web site has been central to the participated process of manual writing and consequently of the documentary and web site production where the principles of the manuals are applied and demonstrated. From the BLOG level of the web site, we have invite viewers to become co-produces of the Wiki page; and on the the wiki platform, we have co-authored the pages that are then presented and debated on the blog level. So the two levels call for each other like the workshop and the show-window of the ideas produced and collected in the manual.
